When will the COVID-19 vaccination program in Hong Kong begin?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/hong-kong\/health-environment\/article\/3122137\/coronavirus-hong-kong-approves-emergency-use\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hong Kong\u2019s vaccination program<\/a> will begin accepting online bookings from Tuesday 23rd February 2021, with priority given to 2.4 million frontline workers and those in high-risk groups. The first jabs will then be administered from Friday 26th February 2021 and the vaccination drive will be implemented in phases, expected to last for up to six months.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Which COVID-19 vaccines will be available?<\/h2>\n<p>The following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covidvaccine.gov.hk\/en\/vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three COVID-19 vaccines<\/a> have been ordered (listed below), with 7.5 million doses of each vaccine ordered, making a total of 22.5 million doses. Each individual will need to be administered two doses of the vaccine.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sinovac Biotech\u2019s CoronaVac<\/li>\n<li>Pfizer-BioNTech<\/li>\n<li>AstraZeneca &#8211; Oxford University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that the vaccine is not mandatory. Furthermore, Hong Kongers can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/east-asia\/hong-kong-to-let-residents-choose-between-covid-19-vaccines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">choose the vaccines<\/a> they wish to get. However, only the Sinovac Biotech and Pfizer BioNTech vaccines have currently received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/hong-kong\/health-environment\/article\/3122085\/what-do-we-know-about-different-covid-19-vaccines#google_ads_iframe_\/8134\/scmp\/web\/hongkong_healthenvironment\/article\/d_banner1_0:~:text=Of%20the%20jabs%20coming%20from%20Sinovac,approval%20for%20use%20in%20the%20city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official approval for use in the city-state.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>3. Who are the eligible groups to get vaccinated for COVID-19?<\/h2>\n<p>All Hong Kongers are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Nevertheless, as per the aforementioned information, the vaccine will be given to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covidvaccine.gov.hk\/en\/programme#navItem9:~:text=Persons%20aged%2060%20years%20or%20above%20(a,members%20of%20the%20public%20under%2060.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">priority groups<\/a> first, based on the following order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elderly people above the age of 60<\/li>\n<li>Healthcare workers, including those participating in anti-epidemic related work<\/li>\n<li>Residents and staff of care homes for the elderly\/persons with disabilities<\/li>\n<li>Personnel maintaining critical public service and cross-boundary related work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next in line after the priority groups will be those between the ages of 16 and 59 with chronic diseases, followed by other members of the public.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Should you get the COVID-19 vaccine?<\/h2>\n<p>While there have been some overseas reports of adverse consequences, the COVID-19 vaccine has passed through clinical trials and is deemed safe for use. What\u2019s more, Hong Kong experts have also given the green light for the Sinovac Biotech and Pfizer BioNTech vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, the following groups of people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covidvaccine.gov.hk\/en\/faq#FAQ_A2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>should not get the vaccine as yet<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> until more data has been collected:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People with severe allergies to medications<\/li>\n<li>Pregnant women<\/li>\n<li>Children<\/li>\n<li>Immunocompromised persons (i.e. cancer patients)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>5. Where can you get the vaccine, and how much will it cost to do so?<\/h2>\n<p>The vaccine will be administered in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covidvaccine.gov.hk\/en\/programme#navItem9:~:text=residents.-,Venues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a number of venues<\/a>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covidvaccine.gov.hk\/pdf\/List_of_CVC_Venues.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Community Vaccination Centers (CVC)<\/a>, which will be set up by the government in each of the 18 districts in Hong Kong. Eligible Hong Kongers can select the vaccine, as well as reserve a slot at their preferred CVC for their first and second dose through the online booking system.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this, the vaccine will also be available at designated general outpatient clients of the Hospital Authority, private hospitals and clinics, as well as residential care homes and nursing homes. Further details on vaccination venues will be announced by the government in due course.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong residents with a valid Hong Kong Identification Card (HKID) will be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine free of charge.
