Factors taken into consideration in the global liveability index survey include pollution, socio-political tensions, culture and health issues, but not <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/hong-kong\/hong-kong-economy\/article\/2178308\/hong-kong-ranked-sixth-most-expensive-city-expats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">living costs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Why then, according to the study, has Hong Kong been ranked in such a low position? In today\u2019s article, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.hk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Pacific Prime Hong Kong<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will focus on the two factors that relate strictly to health and health insurance, and further discusses the consequences for expats. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class='code-block code-block-1' style='margin: 8px 0; clear: both;'>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.hk\/compare-quotes\/step-one\/?campSource=PPHK-Blog&utm_source=blog&utm_medium=content_banner&utm_campaign=Blog_Banner&utm_content=single\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1644\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.pacificprime.hk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WP-Banner-revamp-final-20221207_1.-Single-final.jpg?resize=700%2C303&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Individual Health Insurance Plans\" width=\"700\" height=\"303\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hong Kong liveability ranking 2018 &#8211; the Mangkhut factor<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sudden drop in rankings for Hong Kong in this year\u2019s survey is strongly linked to Typhoon Manghkut, which is one of the most powerful typhoons to hit the city-state since the records began in 1946. Even though no casualties were recorded, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.hk\/blog\/2018\/10\/29\/natural-disaster-insurance-shifts-after-two-t10-typhoons-in-hong-kong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">destruction<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it caused left Hong Kong in havoc for many days, with cleaning services working hard to clear the roads after some 1,500 trees fell down. All this led to significant transportation delays and inconveniences, which in turn lowered Hong Kong\u2019s position in this year\u2019s global liveability index. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Air pollution<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another factor contributing to Hong Kong\u2019s fall in the global liveability ranking is the SAR\u2019s pollution levels. The low visibility of less than 8 km is at 30 percent since 2015, making Hong Kong one of a kind in the sense that this first tier city falls in line or even behind developing cities such as Bangkok, or Shanghai in terms of air pollution. Hong Kong\u2019s pollutant index often falls well below the government\u2019s Air Quality Objectives (AQOs) and even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/ambient-(outdoor)-air-quality-and-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHO&#8217;s Air Quality<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> guidelines, exposing residents to the negative effects of pollution.
